Here is a screenshot of SPM-IM in use. It shows a connection being established from a remote SpreadMsg running elsewhere, and a series of messages which SPM-IM received
SPM-IM should be installed on a PC which has a network card and TCP/IP networking operational. Once SPM-IM is downloaded and installed, getting it set up is quick and simple. Open the SPM-IM application. You will see the main window:
Select a Port number, and click Start - that's it! SPM-IM is now listening for any incoming message or chat request from any remote SpreadMsg application running elsewhere. Remember, if you change the Port number, you must make the same change at the SpreadMsg application, else the two will not be able to communicate. The "Stop" button ends listening and puts SPM-IM in idle mode.
Under the Options Menu are several feature choices. Checking an option enables it, and unchecking it disables the feature. Here is a description of each:
Listen on Startup -- Automatically execute "Start" when app loads. Used when invoking SPM-IM at PC startup or from batch file.
Minimize on Startup -- Launch SPM-IM minimized, running in the background.
Chat Mode -- Opens a textbox so user can hold a realtime chat session with the incoming connection.
Timestamp -- Adds timestamping to incoming messages, alerts, and chat.
Play SoundFile on New Event -- Plays the file "SPMIM.WAV" on any new event. An event is any incoming message, alert, or an incoming connection being aquired or lost. Several sample sound files are included for your use, or you can substitute your own - just use the correct name, and put it in the folder where SPM-IM is located.
Popup on New Event -- Used when running minimized to alert user of action. On any new event, SPM-IM will popup and display its regular window, with the latest activity history. Combine with Play SoundFile for added alerting!
Log To File -- Create logfile of all session activity, with time and date stamping. The logfile is located in the SPM-IM folder and is named SPMIM.LOG.
