ALPHASENSE PRODUCT APPLICATION NOTE Rev. 980220 Subject: Use of AlphaSense with Digital Pagers As you know, AlphaSense is not designed specifically to deliver messages to digital display pagers. For that Compuquest makes the PAGNOW! product. Also, pricing for Alpha Pagers keeps getting ever lower/closer to digital - within just a few dollars a month - and Alpha offers significant benefits over digital-only. (Hint: get an Alpha Pager!!) However, there are instances where customers of the AlphaSense product have expressed desire to send even the most rudimentary alerting to a digital pager, while retaining the full features of the AlphaSense product for other types of message delivery. Compuquest has reviewed this, and we can offer the following solution for access of digital pagers by AlphaSense, 960901 release 3.0 or later: (To upgrade your product, call us or send email to tech support, and give us your name, phone, and the serial number of the unit you wish to upgrade. We will contact you with upgrade procedures). 1). First, the user must call the desired digital pager from a telephone, counting the seconds between the last digit dialed, and when they hear the Paging System's "go-ahead" tones. Do this twice to get a reliable number. 2). Divide this number by two, and add one. The result is called "X". Now, follow the next two steps when performing your AlphaSense programming. 3). Important: The desired input primary or secondary destination that is to be sent to the digital pager should be set as a "DATA" type message. 4). For the desired input, when entering the phone number, enter the digital pager phone access number, followed by "X" "comma" characters (if "X" = 5, you enter 5 commas), followed by whatever numeric message the user desires to have displayed on the digital pager, and ended with the "#" character. EXAMPLE: If the pager access phone number is 123-4567, and the desired numeric message is 9876, and the user's measured value for X is 4, the resulting AlphaSense phone number entry would be: 123-4567,,,,9876# ****-----------------------------------**** When AlphaSense is used this way , the digital pager should display the desired message. If the entire message is not seen on the pager display, the user should try adding or deleting one comma from the phone number entry. No call-progress functions or error-checking operate during this type of message callout. Voice: 630.405.0740 Compuquest, Inc. Fax: 630.830.0877 366 S.
